GMB concerned over Britvic decision to use untrained labour to keep production going during strike action
It is extremely worrying that the company are willing to put employee’s health and safety at risk in an attempt to keep production going by using untrained labour, says GMB London
GMB members employed by Britvic in Norwich took three days strike action this week on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd August in an attempt to encourage the company to improve their redundancy package. [See notes to editors for previous GMB press releases]
Production was effected to the extent that the company were allowing some employees to operate machinery even though they are not trained or competent enough to do so. They were also using managers to run essential equipment in breach of their own policies.
Ivan Mercer, GMB Regional Organiser said:
“It is extremely worrying that the company are willing to put employee’s health and safety at risk in an attempt to keep production going by using untrained labour.
“We will continue to monitor these activities and will be informing the HSE of the company’s actions.”
