Full decant of Parliament during restoration will protect workers and their jobs
GMB Union has today [5 February] reacted to the Restoration and Renewal Client Board’s costed proposals for restoring the Palace of Westminster.
The union – which represents 2,000 members with access to the Estate, from cleaners to chefs to MPs' staff to politicians - is in favour of a full decant of Parliament. The proposals reveal a full decant is the most cost-effective of the Board’s recommended options, has the shortest overall programme duration, and presents the lowest level of health and safety risk.
Dan Anderson, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“The current state of the Palace of Westminster is dangerous, and our members want to see restoration work get underway quickly.[1]
“A full decant of Parliament to a London site must now be the way forward.
“This option not only presents the best value for money but will keep staff safe and able to remain in their jobs.”
