Seasons Greetings
Dear GMB London Region Members
Christmas will be upon us very soon and GMB London hopes that it will be a welcome break for you in what has been a very difficult and challenging year.
Though for many of our London Region members Christmas celebrations have been restricted due to the pandemic we wanted to send you a seasonal message to thank you. During this unprecedented year, our members have shown courage, determination, commitment and solidarity.
Many of our key-worker members like those working in hospitals, care homes, schools, supermarkets, distribution centres, food production and delivery are our heroes and we are indebted to them as a Nation. However, the stark truth is that these workers are some of the worst paid and experience bad terms and conditions. But with your help, GMB London has exposed some of these employers and by challenging employers GMB London has stepped in and made positive change for our members.
The hospitality, aviation and retail sectors have been severely impacted by the pandemic which unfortunately has led to massive job losses. Together with our branches, GMB has campaigned and fought hard against these cuts and ensured that our members receive help and support in negotiations with employers. But ultimately, the pandemic has decimated these sectors and like you, we know it makes for much concern about a future that we need to confront together.
Sadly, I know GMB London has lost many members to Covid. I would like to extend our sympathy to the families, friends and colleagues of GMB London Region members who have lost their lives to Covid and illness.
Lastly, I would like you to know that your GMB membership is important to us, but essentially it must be important to you and work for you. Your GMB London Region is here if you have a problem at work so please get in touch with us.
