Since May, representatives from GMB London Region have presented a donation of £1,000 to five food banks that provide local communities with much-needed food parcels, advice and support.

Food banks in Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Islington, Luton, and Dunstable each received a donation to support essential food aid provided to the local community.

GMB London Region and T.U.U.T Charitable Trust are proud to support the invaluable work of the Trussell Trust, Fareshare, and other organisations, as well as community projects supplying meals, food parcels, and advice.

Warren Kenny, GMB London Regional Secretary and a director of TUFM said:

The last 14 years of the Conservative government have meant that most adults in the UK are familiar with the two words ‘food bank’. That is an absurd fact.

“It is truly alarming that year-on-year usage of food banks has increased as people grow more financially insecure due to low pay, the cost of living crisis, and a benefits system no longer fit for purpose.

“No government can stand tall when its policies mean that many working people must turn to a food bank to survive.

“Now that we have a new government we hope that food bank usage declines as people are lifted out of poverty and manage their lives without resorting to charity.”
