Warren Kenny, GMB Regional Secretary said:
"This league table for the annual average earnings for full time workers in the different occupational groups working for employers in East of England is very instructive.
“It shows the sheer range of pay from the top to the bottom of the pay league. At the top are transport associate professionals on £83,795 and at the bottom hairdressers and related services on £13,730.
“It is not the full picture as it does not include part time workers or those in the gig economy who most of the time earn much less than the full time shop workers at the bottom of the pay league.
“What these figures show is the importance of income support and housing benefits for those at the bottom of the pay league. As Universal Credit which replaces these benefits is rolled out GMB will continue to monitor the impact on the take home incomes of workers who depend on it to make ends meet".

Information on earnings and hours is obtained from employers and treated confidentially. It covers all employee jobs in all industries and occupations across the whole of the United Kingdom. ASHE does not cover the self-employed nor does it cover employees not paid during the reference period.
