GMB taxi protest in Aylesbury halted as Buckingham County Council address concerns over taxi ranks
This is a decision based on common sense following our points that drivers income is being destroyed as well as options to find a safe travel medium for the public Says GMB LondonGMB professional drivers have halted the planned protest that was due to take place today, Monday 23 October, after discussions with Buckinghamshire County Council took place over the weekend over lost income arising from changes to the street layout. Enforcement of the misuse of taxi bays in Aylesbury will take place from 6pm tonight which will free up space for their intended use.
Steve Garelick, Branch President of the GMB professional drivers branch, said:
“This is a decision based on common sense following our points that drivers income is being destroyed as well as options to find a safe travel medium for the public.
“The service will hopefully become more accessible.”
Sakie Awan, lead GMB Taxi member said:
“After talks with Bucks CC over the weekend the drivers feel that new proposals put forward mean that we are heading in the right direction and would like to work alongside Bucks CC to come up with a solution to the problems.
“It has been a stressful time for all involved and we hope that we can move forward with a more positive attitude.”

GMB PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS TO PROTEST IN AYLESBURY ON MONDAY 23 OCTOBER OVER REDUCED INCOME ARISING FROM CHANGES TO STREET LAYOUT

GMB professional drivers will take part in a protest outside Buckinghamshire County Council in Aylesbury on Monday 23 October over lost income arising from changes to the street layout.
Taxi and Private Hire drivers will assemble at 10 am on Monday 23rd October 2017 at the address as follows:

Steve Garelick, Branch President of the GMB professional drivers branch, said:
“Drivers have lost a lot of income with the changes to the street layout. This is compounded by motorists ignoring the Taxi bay on Market Square thus stopping drivers from earning a living.
“Drivers incomes are being damaged by a number of factors, it is with a heavy heart that GMB members have chosen to take this action.”
