GMB signs voluntary recognition agreement at West London food manufacturing company, Bombay Halwa. Our members have seen the positive effect for themselves of what we have all done together says GMB London.

GMB have today, 21 September 2017, signed a voluntary recognition agreement with Bombay Halwa Food Manufacturing Company in Southall, West London.

GMB membership in Bombay Halwa has been increasing steadily over the last year and GMB work very closely with our members, giving advice and support as necessary.

Tahir Bhatti, GMB London Region Organiser, said

“GMB will always work together with employers who take a constructive view of Union recognition. I believe this is an opportunity to work together respectfully, in the interest of the business and also the welfare of the workers at Bombay Halwa.

“In many of the food industry facilities based in West London, the vast majority of the Employees are drawn from the various and diverse communities which are local to them, and are predominantly of Asian origin. Many of these loyal and hard-working people have English only as a second language. When people from these communities are made aware of their rights, and are encouraged to become Union members, they gain confidence from the knowledge that they have the backing of the GMB Trade Union.

“Our members have seen the positive effect for themselves of what we have all done together.  Family is central to the Asian Culture and Bombay Halwa workers have strengthened and extended their ties with each other by combing through a strong, effective Trade Union.  They have become part of the GMB family.”
