GMB London Region’s RCN’s Branch awarded Congress Health and Safety Branch Workplace of the Year 2024

Tony Durcan of RCN@GMB X10, on behalf of his branch, was today presented with the John McClean Health and Safety Workplace Congress Award 2024.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has a number of office premises across the UK, and GMB@RCN is an active branch covering the whole organisation.

The Health and Safety Team worked alongside management on a new policy designed to keep staff safe at conferences and events and was implemented successfully at RCN Congress 2023.

Gavin Davies, GMB London Region Senior Organiser said:

“The RCN branch nomination is a textbook example of organising around a multi-site organisation, using committees and the power of Safety Representatives to make tangible gains. The new ‘Event Safety Policy’ is a particularly noteworthy achievement and follows GMB's adoption of a similar policy.

“I know this will go a long way with our members in the RCN branch who have health and safety at the forefront of everything they do. Their dedication to health and safety has truly been acknowledged.

“On behalf of a proud GMB London, we congratulate the Branch’s Health and Safety Team on being awarded the John McClean Congress Award 2024, particularly poignant as our dear colleague John McClean was an Officer in the London Region team before becoming GMB’s National Health, Safety and Environment Officer.”
