GMB call on Co-operative Funeralcare to halt organisational changes that would result in significant cuts to members' salaries
Long serving loyal staff are being rewarded for their service by having their terms, conditions and pay ripped up, says GMB London
GMB, the union for funeralcare staff, have called on Co-operative Funeralcare to halt plans for ‘organisational changes’ that could see member’s salaries drastically cut. [See notes to editors for history of Co-operative Funeralcare]
Michael Ainsley, GMB organiser said:
“I have contacted the funeralcare part of the once ‘Caring Sharing Co-op’ to seek reassurances for staff but was only told they are consulting with staff about organisational changes and would not deny that some staff, particularly those living in London and surrounding area, would see substantial cuts in salary.
"Funeral directors, operatives and driver bearers employed by Co-op Funeralcare are being presented with a fait accompli, accept new jobs and thousands of pounds cut in salary or we'll sack you".
“Long serving loyal staff are being rewarded for their service by having their terms, conditions and pay ripped up.
“Co-op has a rich history to be proud of, it was founded by working people for working people. It’s as though Funeralcare was hijacked.”
