GMB call for Ford to pay living wage for all contractors to be discussed at meeting.

The time is long overdue for Ford to ensure that its contracted staff enjoy the same pay and conditions as directly employed staff says GMB London.

GMB, the union for contractors, is calling on Ford Motor Company to pay the living wage to all contractors. GMB has postponed a planned protest outside Ford Brentwood, Essex, on 22 February after Ford invited GMB to hold talks.

GMB members working for Ford Motor Company at sites in Bridgend, South Wales; Daventry, Northamptonshire; Halewood, Merseyside; Dunton, Essex and Dagenham, London want Ford to pay their contractors the Living Wage foundation rate of £9.75 per hour for those in London or £8.45 for those elsewhere in the UK. Currently, some contractors working for Ford are paid £7.50 per hour.

Paul Meddes, GMB Organiser, said

"For years Ford Motor Company has treated its UK contractors to less favourable terms and conditions."

"The time is long overdue for Ford to ensure that its contracted staff enjoy the same pay and conditions as directly employed staff."
