Ready meals production workers at Noon Products will gather outside its Southall site tomorrow (8th December) to demonstrate against the closure of the site and the loss of 201 jobs.

Pilgrim Food Masters UK recently acquired the Noon site and subsequently, announced the closure of Collett Way which employs 450 workers, 229 of whom will be transferred to roles on other sites owned by the company but 221 will lose their jobs.

GMB, the union for food manufacturing workers has a long history with Noon, which produces ready meals for supermarkets including Waitrose, M&S, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco. GMB believes that alternative action could prevent the site closure says GMB London.

Gavin Davies, GMB London Region Senior Officer said:

“These job losses will have a massive impact on our members who have worked through the pandemic and ensured that the company continued to produce ready meals for the nation. Through their hard work and commitment, the company continued to produce and accrue profit.

“There may be a cost of living crisis and a downturn in demand but the shareholders will still get their dividend – and that’s what is wrong. GMB members are also feeling the hard impact of higher bills and food costs, it’s not a good time to be laid off, especially when it can be avoided.”
