I serve as the Race Officer for GMB MPs and Peers Staff Branch. In this role, I am committed to ensuring that ethnic minority staffers in Parliament are properly represented, supported, and empowered in what is a unique and often challenging workplace. It is vital that all staff are treated with fairness and dignity, and that structural barriers to progression are dismantled.

One of the key areas I’ve been working on is a campaign to ensure that pay progression for colleagues with protected characteristics is equitable and transparent. This work will culminate in a detailed report that will shape our policy platform for the next Parliament.

As a GMB Staff Representative, I’ve supported colleagues through probation reviews, grievance procedures and disciplinary processes—times when strong, compassionate representation is most needed. It’s a responsibility I hold with great respect.

I joined GMB because I believe passionately in equality, justice, and the fundamental rights of working people. I put myself forward to stand as Race Officer because I want to see more ethnic minority staffers not just entering Parliament, but thriving within it. As those working behind the scenes to support the country’s decision-makers, we should reflect the full diversity of the nation we serve.

On the committee, I hope to drive forward real progress—opening up access routes for underrepresented communities and ensuring Parliament becomes a truly inclusive employer.

In my day-to-day role, I work as Senior Parliamentary Researcher to Jacob Collier MP—a committed trade unionist and former workplace rep himself. His example continues to inspire my work both in Parliament and within GMB.

Only through collective action can we build a fairer, more representative Parliament. I am proud to play my part.
