Bladder Cancer Register: what you need to know

GMB London Region has announced plans to establish a Bladder Cancer Register to identify members who have developed the disease in the last three years.
Why has GMB set up a Bladder Cancer Register?
Research suggests that 6 per cent of bladder cancer cases are caused by exposure to cancer-causing chemicals in the workplace.
GMB wants to identify members who may be affected by their occupation and provide proactive legal support.
The register will help us to understand how many of our members are affected by this disease due to workplace exposure and assess whether they have a personal injury claim.
Who is at risk of workplace exposure?
A wide range of professions are at risk, including:
- Professional drivers
- Painters and decorators
- Handymen
- Food preparation workers
- Gas transmission and distribution
- Health and care workers
- Paper manufacture
- Electronic manufacture and assembly
- Hairdressers
- Petrol station workers
What should I do if I have had bladder cancer?
If you have become aware in the last three years that you have a bladder cancer condition, we would urge you to follow this link to add your name to the GMB Bladder Cancer Register: https://uk.surveymonkey.com/r/57PSDTH
The reason for this time frame is because you must take a personal injury claim within three years of your date of knowledge of the condition.
Our law firm, UnionLine, can then contact you to discuss a personal injury claim if your condition can be linked to your workplace.
UnionLine is fully union-owned, so the cost of making a claim is covered by your membership fees. They do not take any deductions, so you will keep 100 per cent of your compensation.
